Yeah! Eat it, Erdrick!

Just Breed is a 1992 strategy-RPG for the Famicom from Enix. It came out in the twilight years of the Famicom's life, one of the last RPG-ish games for the system, and as such it was largely overlooked in Japan, and of course by that time the chances of an English release were nil.

Nevertheless, the game's actually fairly fun. The battles have a good amount of strategy to them, as you decide how best to deploy your armies and whatnot, and the plot, while linear, does a good job of entertaining you between battles. For those who pay attention to such things, the character designs were done by Yuzo Takada, who also wrote the manga 3x3 Eyes. It doesn't really matter that much given that we're talking 16x16 sprites here, but if you're sufficiently psycho about it there's an artbook out there.

I signed onto this project in March 2002 for my first large-scale game translation. Eventually I ended up doing the translation, the editing and formatting, testing, and even the drawing of most of the cute little item icons. Many thanks to Bongo` for his excellent job on the hacking side of things!

So anyway, the game's all in English now, and you owe it to yourself to play it, if only to ogle toma's yummy font (lifted from Moon Crystal) and complain about how I translated Tungal.
